A petrol station today dropped its prices in a bid to the be cheapest in the country as a big thank you to its customers.

Limes Service Station on Manchester Road in Walkden has dropped its prices to 1.69.9p for unleaded and 185.9p for diesal.

This is significantly down from 187.9p a litre for unleaded  and diesel price of 194.9p a litre.

A number of motorists said they had read the prices were going down in The Bolton News.

Co-director of the garage, Hassan Mohammed, aged 30, said:“We’re seeing people coming down and filling up more than usual.

“They are taking advantage of the price change and it’s been a really positive reaction from the customers.

“It feels good, we’re just trying to take every day as it comes and I’m hoping I can carry it on as long as I can and let everyone take advantage of the price.”

Hassan, who lives in Astley Bridge, said: “It’s been a positive reaction from customers and Texaco, my fuel seller, have been enthusiastic about this as well.

“A couple of customers shook my hand as well, it’s been a really positive idea.”

Tony Hemans, aged 47, from Westhoughton, said: “I needed fuel to get to work, I work on the other side of Manchester.

“I heard from a contact who said this has been in The Bolton News, I wondered if it was real but she sent me the link to confirm it.

“It’s about this time of the month I fill up before payday.”

Steven Eckersley, aged 29 from Walkden, who filled up at the station, said:“My Mrs just said the prices had changed. I thought might as well, I only live round the corner.

“I work in logistics so I’m filling up every two days. That’s brilliant, everything helps.”

Laura Hayes, aged 54, from Walkden, said: “I had no idea. My husband fills up at Tesco but I prefer to fill here because it’s closer.

“Hopefully everyone follows suit. It’s great, brilliant. It’s my local, I use this one all the time really.

Leanne Sheehy, aged 31, from Wardley, said: “I just always come to this one it’s just convenient for me.

“I’ve heard about them going up. I always put the same amount of money in, just less goes in.

“It will be good for the community, but it will also be good for them.”

Daniel Walton, aged 38, from Walkden, said: "I saw it on The Bolton News website.

"I normally go to Farnworth Asda, it's 1.89p there so a 20p litre difference."

"I may as well fill up while I can."

Dan Armstrong, aged 37, from Tameside, said: “Someone at work told me about it. They said it’s now the cheapest in the country.

“Fair play to them.”
