Bolton officers say they were on their way to the reservoir off Beaumont Road  today following the reports.

It comes as the body of a teenage boy was recovered from Salford Quays after emergency services were called to reports of a person getting into difficulty in the water yesterday, after swimming with friends.

Sgt Richards of Bolton South Neighbourhood team warned the public of the dangers of this in a Facebook post.

He said: “PCSO's are on their way to reports of 20 youths swimming in the reservoir at Rumworth Lodge off Beaumont Road, some of which are jumping off the pier.

“Less than 24 hours ago a young man lost his life in Salford Quays after getting into difficulties in the water.

“We can't stress enough how dangerous this is, please help us to get the message out there.”

Emergency services and Bolton Mountain Rescue Team's specialist water unit were called at 6.15pm yesterday.

A body was located in the water later that evening and was recovered by specialist partners overnight.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the body is believed to be that of a 16-year-old boy.
