This year’s summer reading challenge is set to launch in Bolton with a free event for four to eleven-year-olds.

The summer long series of events will begin with a launch at Bolton Central Library with science a session of story telling themed around science and industry.

Organisers say this will be free to attend for youngsters between the ages of four and eleven.

A statement from Bolton Library and Museum Services said: “Get ready to blast off into this year’s Summer Reading Challenge Launch Day at Bolton Central Library.

“Join us this Saturday for Science and Industry inspired storytelling, fun and games and don't forget to sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.”

The summer reading challenge is aimed at encouraging youngsters to hone their literary skills by reading at least six books during the summer holidays.

Events are held all over the country and this year’s challenge will be themed around "Gadgeteers", presented by the Reading Agency alongside libraries around England.

In Bolton’s case, youngsters and parents will have the opportunity to find out more about the events in the borough and to sign up at Saturday’s launch event.

The event will take place on Saturday July 23 between 11am and 3pm.
