Youngsters have been given a interesting insight into the world of business at a school.

Markland Hill Primary School in Markland Hill held an entrepreneurs club for its year six children.

The club, grow5pound, is a scheme introduced by Virgin Money allowing young children to experience the mindset of an entrepreneur.

Budding entrepreneurs at the club spent five weeks planning their business ideas which included learning important skills such as teamwork and communication, among others.

The period finished with the children launching stalls at their summer fayre, with the children selling a range of items including mocktails, ice cream and origami, as well as setting up a guess how many sweets in a jar stall.

Markland Hill head teacher Nicola Ewens said: “It was wonderful for the children to have the opportunity to experience life as an entrepreneur.

"The children learnt skills for life such as leadership, marketing, sales, communication and many more.

“I am so proud of all the children who participated in the club.

"They spent weeks prepping and planning in the lead up to our successful summer fayre.

“The children were amazing, parents absolutely loved it and it was great for everyone to be involved.”

Entrepreneur club lead and teacher of years five and six at the school, Sanah Khan, added: "The children have worked extremely hard over the past 5 weeks and dedicated their time in school and at home.

“It is rewarding to witness their success and see their hard work pay off. They made a whopping £185 in profit.

“I would like to thank the children, staff and PTA members involved as well as all the customers.”
