Another case of "brazen thieves" using a white van to steal from people's gardens has been caught on camera.

This comes after reports earlier this week that suspected thieves were balancing on top of vans to steal from people's gardens on Arnold Street and Hughes Street in Halliwell.

Now, another resident in the area has come forward saying that he too has been targeted with steel fans and wheels that he had been planning to turn into new reusable items had been stolen.

He said: "As you can imagine, I was upset, annoyed and furious that somebody would be brazen enough to do what these thieves have done."

He added: "While, at first glance, these items may appear to be scrap items, they were in fact items that I had purchased with a view to 'up-cycling' into new-resalable items."

CCTV footage shows the apparent thieves going into the garden and taking and industrial steel fan and other steel items.

The video shows a man claiming onto a wall and into a back garden, a man opening the closed but unlocked rear shutter, three men taking steel wheels, an industrial steel fan and other steel items from the garden and three men putting the goods in the back of a white tipper van.

In this case the thefts appear to have happened on Monday, June 13 and may be connected to a recent case in which suspected thieves were seen balancing on top of a white van to get into people's gardens.

The Arnold Street and Hughes Street cases were raised by Cllr Rabiya Jive, who represents the area for the council and sits on the Stronger Communities committee, which handles public safety in the borough.

In that case, Cllr Jiva said she was concerned that the heat earlier this week may have been playing a part, with opportunistic thieves taking advantage of people being out and about in the summer weather and targeting their homes.

She has said that anyone with any concerns should contact Greater Manchester Police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
