A 10-year-old motocross rider has walked 1.01km for 101 days in honour of a teenage racing car driver who died last year.

As a foundation rider, Riley Butterworth, from Blackrod, was set a challenge to help raise funds for the Jude Morris Foundation.

Jude Morris died aged 17 after a crash at the British Motocross Championship at Duns in the Scottish Borders last August.

The charity was set up which was set up by the late rider’s dad to help support the next generation of motocross riders.

Riley decided he was going to run 1.01km for 101 consecutive days, starting on Tuesday, February 22 and ending Friday, June 3.

A statement from the Jude Morris Foundation said: “His little legs did cover 101km and he showed true dedication and determination.

“Every run was recorded on his strava and he kept us updated on his Instagram.

“Riley’s target was £101 – as you can see he smashed that target.

“The grand total going to JMR Foundation is £1,300 (once the GoFundMe fees have been removed) and thank you to Finlee Pope Racing number 5 who made it a round number.

“Massive thank you to everyone who supported Riley and well done to Riley himself.”

Riley was selected for the Jude Morris Foundation at the start of the year and wanted to give back by helping the foundation fundraise money to help other aspiring athletes within the motocross community.

Jude Morris rode with the number 101 so the foundation is known for this number and the #JMR101.

Riley's mum Leann Butterworth said: “He decided to commit to running 1.01km for 101 consecutive days and he documented his runs on his Instagram."

Riley did a live video for his final run and said: “Thank you to everyone who donated, it’s been a pleasure to run.”

He was presented the cheque of £1,300 to the foundation on July 9 at the British Motocross Championships where he was riding despite having a broken thumb.

Riley has been racing since he was eight-years-old and was chosen out of 300 applicants to be supported by the foundation, which offers advice and motocross contacts to get the driver’s career further.
