The father of three-year-old Albie Speakman, who died after a tractor collision, is raising money for Make-a-Wish to honour his son’s generous nature.

Albie died following the tragic incident at a farm off Bentley Hall Road in Tottington on Saturday.

His father Neil Speakman, 36, has now been granted a place running the London Marathon with Make-a-Wish in October.

The minimum target is set at £2,500 and in less than 24 hours, he has raised £1,272, just over half of the set goal.

He said: “All Albie wanted to do was help people and make them smile.

“The thought that a few thousand could make another child smile like Albie did and have a nice day off the back of Albies memory, it really does means so much to me”The Bolton News: Albie Speakman Albie Speakman

Neil pointed out that although he is "no spring chicken", he was willing to do whatever it takes to complete the course, even if he has to walk it in eight hours.

He said: “It isn’t about me, it’s about Albie and bringing some light and joy at the darkest of times for a child and their loved ones.

“Whenever he saw anyone begging on the street he would always ask me for money to give to them.

“Even on the morning it happened, we went to Burnley to deliver some woodchip to a lady with a big play area.

“She had only ordered two bags but needed five or six and couldn’t afford the extra. At three years old, Albie ran straight over demanding that I would bring her some more for free."

Neil is wanting to share Albies kind-hearted and generous nature with other children who may need it.

By setting up the just giving page and running for Make-a-Wish, he hopes to put smiles, like the one Albie always had, on other children's faces.

He said: "If anyone can donate it doesn’t matter if it is £2 or £200, it really is the thought that counts and it would mean the world.”
