Supermarket giant Asda has issued an apology to Horwich residents after one of its lorries reversed into houses yesterday (July 26).

The HGV backed into two houses on Napier Drive as the driver was attempting a three-point-turn after residents reported his sat nav directed him up the cul-de-sac.

Residents, including a number of children, watched on frightened from inside the houses as the huge vehicle crumpled the porches of the buildings.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, but police, fire and council officials were all on the scene to ensure the safety of all involved.

An Asda spokesperson said: "We are very sorry about the accident that happened in Horwich yesterday and are working to help fix the damage as soon as possible."

In the aftermath of the incident, resident Aleshea Davis said: "The distressing bit was that we had the kids here and they saw the whole thing. I've been sick. We're all shaken up."

"We've only lived here six months. We're renting and we don't know what we're going to do now. The kids are scared to be in the house."

"I'm just scared, and I don't know where to go now. It’s just me and my children who live there."

Residents say that large delivery vehicles often get sent the wrong way up their road and are calling for signage warning them not to enter in order to prevent something similar happening again.

One resident described how numerous large vehicles attempted to come up just in the period of time it took to safely remove the Asda lorry away from the scene.
