Firefighters battled a fire for nearly two hours last night.
The blaze broke out in in a lock up garage on Hill Side, off Chorley New Road.
The call was made at 7pm after being spotted by a member of the public.
The fire was seen coming from one garage, which was attached to five further garages.
Two units were sent to the scene and using specialist equipment were able to get the blaze under control and prevent it spreading to the other properties.
Watch manager Carl Gleaves urged people to report fires like this as soon as they are spotted.
He said: "It is still under investigation.
"The garage was locked, it did not seem to be malicious.
"Our message to people is act as soon as they see something like this, fire services will respond.
"The public did exactly what we would have wanted."
The property is located between Hill Side Court and Hill Side House.
One resident of Hill Side House said she was worried by the blaze.
She said: "I was watching the football match so I did not see it.
"I could smell smoke, it was thick.
"I went upstairs to get out of the way, my flat faces the garages.
"I was afraid of an explosion, you never know with garages."
