An award-winning hairstylist based in Astley Bridge, is hoping to prove he is still a cut above.
Hairstylist Wesley Martin has been nominated for an award at the 2023 UK Hair and Beauty awards.
Wesley, from Astley Bridge, has been a hair stylist for more than 15 years and has previously won an award for colour technician of the year at the English Hair and Beauty Awards.
He has now been shortlisted in the Hair Stylist of the Year category.
Wesley is based at Platinum Hair Studio on Blackburn Road.
Wesley said: “I have been a hairstylist for over 15 years, so to be nominated for such a prestigious award is such an honour, and a great achievement.
“It has inspired me.
“It has given me the confidence to be more creative and adventurous, pushing the boundaries in partnership with my clients to create some really amazing effects at Platinum Studios.
“I have previously won colour technician of the year at the English Hair and Beauty Awards, so I’m hoping I can take it one step further at the UK awards.”
He also highlighted the importance of being recognised in a town such as Bolton.
Wesley added: “You hear about all these winners from major cities, so it’s really good for Bolton.
“You don’t need to come from a massive city to achieve.
“And I think this is really going to help propel my career.”
The thing that he enjoys the most is the influence that he can have on people lives, ‘especially those suffering with mental health’.
He added: “I just love making people feel better about themselves.
“That part is so rewarding.”
The competition will go to district and regional rounds, where finalists will compete locally before heading to the national grand final red carpet event.
The ceremony will be held in Birmingham, which will be judged by several celebrities.
The Hair and Beauty Awards aim to support businesses both large and small and expose all candidates to new opportunities via social media, no matter their financial and social status.
The awards aim is to break down barriers, helping contestants build followings and recognition – even if they don’t win.
