A bereaved mother and father are ‘seeking answers’ about why their baby son died at Royal Bolton Hospital.

Olly Vickers, from Little Lever, was just four-months-old when he died at the hospital on February 6 this year.

An inquest into his death opened earlier this year with a further pre-inquest review taking place at Bolton Coroners Court hearing how his parents Emma Clark and Michael Vickers have been deeply concerned about Olly’s medical treatment over the course of his short life.

The review heard how Olly had been born and delivered at Royal Bolton Hospital, where he later died, with his parents having raised concerned about his treatment during that time.

Louise Green, representing the parents at the coroners court, said the parents’ concerns centre around “matters surrounding the birth and care immediately post-birth and in the months of Olly’s short life leading up to his death”.

Coroner Peter Sigee advised that lawyers representing Mr Vickers and Ms Clark should liaise with those representing Bolton NHS Foundation Trust to decide which aspects they are agreed upon and what they are disputing.

He said: “I think it would help what would help everybody with this inquest is to gain an understanding about which facts are agreed and which are disputed.”

Mr Sigee has set a provisional date for the full inquest, which is expected to take place over two days, to be held between January and March next year.

He said: “If we are able to hear this inquest before the first anniversary of Olly’s death then it is good that we should do so.”

He added that even if it cannot take place before then, he will take care to ensure that the hearing does not fall on the week of the first anniversary of Olly’s death on February 6.

Jodie Miller, of JMW Solicitors representing the family, said after the hearing: “This was a catastrophic and life-changing episode, and I will be supporting them fully through the inquest process and gathering independent evidence as part of my investigation to try to provide the answers they are seeking.”

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust says staff will do all they can to help with the process.

Chief Nurse Tyrone Roberts said:“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Olly’s family and loved ones following their tragic loss.

“Due to legal proceedings we are unable to comment in detail at this time. We will be doing everything we can as part of the process to help his family get the answers they deserve, and to continue to act on any learning taken from this.”
