A family has been left devastated after a huge fire destroyed their home.

An electrical fault in the kitchen caused the fire at the house in Lord Stile Lane, Bromley Cross, which left Ed Siddall and his family with nothing as the blaze engulfed the house.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to  help them with everyday expenses since the fire last Friday.

Emma Schofield slept as the fire started and was helped to jump out of a bedroom window when passers-by noticed the fire.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: “At around 4pm on Wednesday 3 August, firefighters were called out to a house fire on Lords Stile Lane, Bromley.

“Three fire engines from Farnworth and Darwen attended the scene and used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish a fire in the kitchen.

“One casualty, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation, was treated by firefighters at the scene. Crews were in attendance for two hours and 45 minutes.”

No injuries were sustained by Emma during her jump and luckily, the couple’s 17-month-old son Eric was at nursery at the time while dad Ed was at work.

After raising £4,235, the family said in a statement: “Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared the fundraiser.

“We are so overwhelmed by all the support and can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with such an amazing community.

The fund raiser was set up by Linda Wilkinson, who lives next door to Ed and Emma.

The family added: “Special thank you to Linda who has set all of this up and taken in items which have been donated, we certainly wouldn’t be in as high spirits as we are currently if it wasn’t for her.

“Linda has also been through so much with her own house being affected and her mum, dogs and cat being in the house at the time.

“Yet through all of it she has been so selfless and really has helped us through it all.

“So much love to everyone who has donated, shared or just sent a supportive message. You have no idea how much it means to all three of us.”

A passer-by was forced to break down the front door to alert Emma of the fire, which fire services confirmed saved her life.

Baby Eric’s pram was the only thing of his not destroyed in the fire and Emma and Ed have only the clothes they wore that day.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
