‘Contentious’ double yellow lines could be removed from a Bolton road after objections from nearly 100 residents.
The waiting restrictions had first been put in place at two turning points on Tetbury Drive, Breightmet, after safety issues were raised, including after an incident when a man who had had a heart attack had to wait longer than necessary when his ambulance became stuck.
But the newly painted double yellow lines proved divisive ever since, with some residents having supported them, while others have campaigned to remove them ever since
Cllr Adele Warren, who represents Breightmet, said: “This has been very contentious for Tetbury Drive, I’ve asked for it to be dealt with as soon as possible but its gone on longer than I would have liked.”
She added: “I’m hoping now we’ve got the new plan drawn up we can get the lines at the second turning point removed, they’ll be burnt off.”
“The first one will be pulled back to a certain extent but they will remain in a particular area because that’s where the safety concerns were.”
There had been plans for waiting restrictions at a third turning point on Tetbury Drive which were dropped.
Cllr Warren explained that one of the reasons for the length of time this issue has taken has been the ward elections in the time in between, with political candidates ability to use council resources limited for this time.
Following the election the council then had to form a new leadership before issues like this could be considered.
- Urgent action needed to stop crashes at danger junction in Breightmet
- Woman's fury after car crashes into home for the FOURTH time
Since then, a petition signed by 95 people in the area was served to the council asking that the double yellow lines be removed, claiming that residents hadn’t been consulted properly about where they would be.
But, according to Cllr Warren the issue has been complicated by the fact the others on the road want the lines to stay due to the safety issues.
Bolton Council has now agreed that the waiting restrictions will be ‘reassessed’ in consultation with ward representatives.
Once this is complete further possible amendments will then be presented to the council.
