A rugby union club in Whitefield is looking for women and girls to join their team.

Those who love sport or have been inspired by England’s Lionesses' Euro 2022 football heroines can be sure of a roaring welcome at Sedgley Park Tigers.

The club, which pays in the North West league (NC3), is searching for new members ahead of the new season, which kicks off on Sunday, September 25.

Pre-season training is already underway.

Team captain Tasha Routh said, “We have ambitions to do well this season and show how much we have grown as a team.

“We have amazing coaches who are giving all their time making sure we are ready and performing to our best. The ladies on the team put so much effort it and I’m proud of every single one.

“We would encourage anyone to join, even if you haven’t played before."

The Tigers invited Cllr Liz FitzGerald to join them at one of their training sessions to promote the sport.

She said: “I was warmly welcomed by the whole team.

“They are a great group of women and I am sure they will have a brilliant season.

“Anyone who wants to get fit, be part of a team and have a lot of fun should come on down to the club."

The ladies club has strong support from head coach Mark Payne, manager Rebecca Payne, and coaches Simon Vale, Richard King, Jack Hendo and Lucy Hobson.

This season has also seen them open a new changing facility at the training ground.

Training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7pm to 8.15pm, throughout the summer at their training ground off Philips Park Road West.
