A miniture railway which was trashed by vandals has reopened to the public.

The popular attraction in Moss Bank Park was targeted by yobs, who caused £20,000 worth of damage.

The vandals smashed up the track  shortly after it had reopened to visitors after Covid restrictions leaving volunteers devastated.

The mile long track was reduced to 20ft.

Volunteers had worked on the miniture railway throughout lockdown.

Volunteers vowed to reopen the attraction and have recently welcomed crowds back.

The miniature railway is running on a temporary track, with volunteers looking forward to welcoming more people back this weekend.

Tracey Stirling, secretary of the Moss Bank Park Model Engineering Society, said it was satisfying to see it back running.

She said: “We have spent hours repairing and installing the temporary track, so we could see the smiles back on families from all over the region.

“A lot of time and patience has gone into getting the track up and running.

“You can’t believe how satisfied we all felt on the first day of running.

“We did not charge our normal fee of £1, we asked for donations instead.

“The response from the people of Bolton and further afield has been amazing.

“We would like to thank everybody for their donations.

“Hopefully we can get the track back to how it was.”

Following the vandalism in June police confirmed they were investigating the incident.

A GMP spokesperson said: “I can confirm that this was reported to us and anyone with information should contact us online via our LiveChat facility, if able, or by calling 101 quoting incident 1190 of 03/06/2022.

“Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
