A man has been arrested after firing a gun in broad daylight, with the armed police having been called, police say.

The incident happened on Argyle Street in Heywood this morning (Friday, August 12). Police received reports of a man holding a firearm, with it being reported that he shot a window with it.

Armed police were called and a 37-year-old man was arrested for criminal damage and air weapon offences. The man remains in custody.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said:

“At approximately 9am on Friday 12 August 2022, officers received reports of a man brandishing a firearm on Argyle Street in Heywood. It was reported that the man then discharged the firearm, causing damage to a window.

“Specialist firearms officers attended the scene and a 37 year-old man was arrested for criminal damage and air weapon offences. An air weapon was also recovered from his address.

“The man remains in custody for questioning. At this time there is no known connection between the male and the premises damaged.”
