A busy road remains closed in both directions this morning after a serious road traffic crash.

Chorley Road in Blackrod is shut after a serious road traffic collision late last night, Friday.

The road is shut from The Cherry Tree pub to Blackrod Brow as police carry out investigation work.

Emergency services were called at around 11pm.

Staff members from The Cherry Tree are said to have ran outside with fire extinguishers after hearing a loud bang.

Unconfirmed reports suggest there were two cars involved and accident investigation work is underway.

Staff at The Cherry Tree will be aiding the investigation by handing CCTV footage over to the police. 

Highways information agency Inrix posted this morning: “The A6 Chorley Road both ways is closed due to accident investigation work from The Cherry Tree pub to B5408 Blackrod Brow.

“Traffic is coping well.

“The road remains closed after an accident late last evening."

The police have been contacted for comment.
