A woman was airlifted to hospital after falling into a stream in Tottington on Saturday morning.

The 58-year-old woman reportedly fell down an embankment into a stream near Mill Street.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who were informed of the incident at around 11.25am, believe she accidentally fell and said other emergency services such as Bolton Mountain Rescue Team helped at the scene.

The severity of her injuries are unknown at this time.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 11.25am on Saturday we received a report about the concern of the welfare of an adult female close to Mill Street, Tottington.

“It is believed she accidently fell into the stream and emergency services attended, including mountain rescue, to assist.

“The severity of the injuries are unclear at this moment as she was airlifted to hospital for treatment.”

A spokesperson from Bolton Mountain Rescue Team added: "At 10.38am this morning we were contacted by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Emergency Operations Centre who requested our assistance at an incident in woodland near to Tottington.

"A 58-year-old female was reported to have taken a fall down an embankment.

"We were on exercise at the time with the NWAS Hazardous Area Response Team team, who had also been requested to attend, and so a combined response was made.

"GMP and North West Air Ambulance also attended this incident.

"We have no further information at the moment."

North West Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
