Arriva bus drivers in Bolton will remain on strike after voting to reject a fresh pay offer.

Drivers for Arrive North-West, including those in Bolton, began indefinite strike action on Wednesday, July 20.

Union members began industrial action after they rejecting a previous pay offer from the operator.

According to the GMB Union, more than three-quarters of drivers turned down the latest offer in favour a continued walk-out.

Bus services in Bolton and across the North-West remain cancelled.

George Patterson, GMB regional organiser, said: “Working people are facing the worst cost of living crisis for a generation. These drivers are fighting for a fair pay rise to help them through it.

“We need something better from Arriva. Bus drivers need to know that they’ll be able to cover their bills.

“We won’t stop fighting for our members to get the decent pay they deserve.”

In a statement published on Arriva’s website in July, Howard Farrall, North West and Wales area operating director for Arriva UK Bus, said: "Strike action is counter-productive, harms the communities and customers we serve, and damages bus travel at a time when we should all be focused on building recovery from the pandemic.

"We’re calling on Unite and GMB to abandon their plans for this damaging strike and to ballot their members on the new offer."
