A man has been arrested and another sought by police after reports a seven-year-old girl was abducted and taken in woodland in Tameside.

Police have released two images as part of an investigation into the incident in Droysden on Wednesday (August 17) around 4pm.

After receiving multiple child abduction reports, the seven-year-old girl was reunited with her family a short time later.

Officers suspect the girl was taken by a man on Warne Avenue and into a wooded area nearby the disused railway track towards Manchester Road.

A search for the man is ongoing and there is a large police presence in the area while extensive enquiries take place.

On Wednesday night a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of abduction and sexual assault. He remains in custody.

Detectives have issued two images of another man police want to speak to urgently in relation to this incident.

The first image is a short time after reports of the abduction were first being made to us; the second is around 30 minutes after the incident where the man appears to be seen with his jacket now around his waist on Gainsborough Road hearing towards The Snipe.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police and if they see the man in the images to call  999 quoting incident 2270 of 17/08/2022.
