A budding broadcast journalist is over the moon with her A-level results, which were better than she expected.

Student Sophie Cross, 18, from The Sixth Form Bolton studied media studies, photography, and film, and always had an interest in media, which goes as far back as high school.

Sophie achieved an A in all three of her subjects, which she said she was relieved to find out, because she was particularly anxious to get her results.

She has big dreams of going into TV or radio journalism one day.

Sophie said: “It feels unreal.

“I didn’t expect to get the grades I did.

“I’m still in shock.

“It was more exciting than nerve wrecking though.

“Today, I was like ‘wow, this is happening, and I’m going to find out what I have worked for’.

“I’m so excited for the next step.

“Some exams could have gone better but I did my best and that’s all I wanted to do.”

She says she often carries a notepad with her to jot ideas down when she thinks something will make a good story, or when she thinks of questions.

Sophie added: “I’ve always had an interest in media, ever since I was in high school.

“I really want to break into the industry as a journalist and maybe do some presenting as well.

“I’m really interested in other people’s lives, and I love the story telling aspect.

“There’s a lot to know and always a story.”

Sophie is also one of many students who studied during Covid-19, and she says it’s been ‘very challenging’.

She added: “It has been challenging because of the Coronavirus and having time off.

“It was especially difficult with online learning too.

“But coming back was really lovely.

“And I made it to results day with amazing results.”

Sophie previously went to Canon Slade School.

She will now go on to study broadcast journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University.
