KNUTSFORD FC have had a mixed start to life in Cheshire Football League Division One.

A 4-3 home loss to Wythenshawe Amateur Reserves on Saturday was considered disappointing.

But the team responded in tremendous fashion by winning 4-0 at Styal on Tuesday night.

On a day ‘too hot for football’, Knutsford's performance against a determined Wythenshawe was littered with defensive errors and poor finishing.

Reds were 2-0 down when Wythenshawe’s Morley was sent-off for foul language.

Potts was fouled in the box and Pemberton cut the deficit in half from the penalty spot.

On 49 minutes Naylor broke free in the box and made it 2-2.

Roddick headed home to put Reds in front but Knutsford faded and they conceded twice against the 10 men in the last seven minutes.

A first half hat-trick from club stalwart Steve Jenyons made the difference in a tough game of high intensity football against an aggressive Styal, who had three players sent-off in the second half.

Manager Nick Ward made four changes to his starting line-up, fielding more fire-power up front.

Pemberton crossed into the box for Jenyons to head home the opener on 11 minutes.

Jenyons drove drove the ball to the far post and a small deflection made it 2-0.

It was a game of to & fro with Styal posing problems in forward areas but lacking a cutting edge

Bowey was a bundle of energy and he nudged Reds further ahead with a slightly deflected shot from 30 yards on 40 minutes.

Then an excellent free-kick to the far post found Jenyons rising highest to smash a bullet header past the keeper to complete his hat-trick on his 295th appearance for the club.

Although Knutsford were the better side in the first half and played some good football, Styal had worked hard and were a threat.

The second half was a bad-tempered scrappy affair though, with Styal getting more and more frustrated.

After three Styal players were shown the red card, Shaw was fouled and he reacted giving the referee no option but to send him off too.

Knutsford: Simpson, Hawley, Brotherton, Cavanagh (Shaw), Roddick (Potts), Hawley T, Law, Kennedy, Bowey, Jenyons (Naylor), Pemberton (Burgess).

Knutsford host Cheadle Nomads Reserves on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
