Teenager Marianne Cox is celebrating outstanding results after achieving 2As and a B.

The daughter of Bolton Council leader, Martyn Cox, Marianne achieved the grades in religious studies, Spanish and business.

Marianne always had an interest in religion and cultures across the world and was inspired by her mum's Rosa Garcia Cox Spanish culture.

Rosa died on December 23, 2019 , at the age of just 57.

Cllr Cox said: “She worked really hard to get high grades through everything she has been through in the last two years and has got everything she needed.

“She’s the youngest and last one to get her A-level results.

“It’s been a difficult two years, not only losing her mum but having to gong through lockdown and have classes online or no classes at all.

“It’s been a tough time for young people in general studying and I’m sure there will have been a lot of nervous 18-year-olds awaiting their results.

“I am very proud of her, but I am proud of all three of my children.

“She was determined to prove herself.

“I’m no different to any other parent.

“I am really pleased she’s done well.”

Marianne, will now go on to study philosophy at Manchester University.

She will also join her brother Andrew, 21, who is already at the university studying French and maths.

Cllr Cox also shared how he didn’t get the best grades but that it’s not the end, if people haven’t got the grades they were after.

He added: “It’s not the end of your life if you don’t get the results, you’re after.

I didn’t get the results I wanted. There’s a lot of pressure with exam results and there are so many people extremely capable who are successful who didn’t get the grades they wanted.”
