On filming in the north of England, Adrian said: "I didn’t know Manchester; I didn’t know the areas around Manchester. But I absolutely loved working there. It was great. I had a great time in Manchester – there were some really interesting areas that we went to, and some beautiful places as well. We filmed in the winter, so it was cold, and it was bleak. But all those things will add to the atmosphere of the piece."

In Ridley the Northern Irish actor, 64, has returned to his detective roots after fans fell in love with him as the BBC show's catchphrase King Superintendent Ted Hastings.

Dunbar is fronting ITV's new crime drama as the show's title character retired Detective Inspector Ridley.

Episode one aired yesterday and can be watched on ITV Hub.

The opening episode sees Ridley called when a local farmer is found dead, to assist on a missing persons case that remains unsolved after 13 years. Ridley always suspected the investigation was flawed, and that the wrong man was tried for an abduction. As they delve deeper, they uncover another body, and a shocking secret.

Red Rose takes in some of Bolton's most stunning locations including Smithills Hall and of course Le Mans Crescent.
