One woman has been taken to hospital following a house fire in Farnworth last night.

Fire, police and ambulance responders were called to a house on Clifton Street at around 10.30pm and were on the scene for approximately two hours.

One woman was treated at the scene and then later take on hospital. She was inside one of the residences for over 55s at Clifton Court.

Investigations will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire. There is currently - as of 10.30am - a police cordon in place and a crime scene investigation van on the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for a comment.

A press statement from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service read: “Three fire engines attended from Farnworth and Bolton Central to Clifton Street, Farnworth, for a fire in a domestic property.

“Fire fighters used full breathing apparatus, hoses and breaking in gear to enter. A fan was also used to ventilate the property.

“There was one casualty rescued. She was treated on the scene by fire officers and taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.”

A witness to the incident said: "They found it difficult getting in with the red ring and then they got a drill to drill the door down.

"It probably took them about 5 minutes. He must have tried with the red ring about 10 times and couldn't get in.

"There wasn't much smoke. We were stood close and couldn't see or smell any smoke initially. A bit of smoke came out after a bit.

"It took them another five minutes to get her out. I was wondering if there was anyone in there.

"I saw them do first aid on her. I think she was initially unconscious.

"Police came about 25 mins later then ambulance just after. I was a bit shocked how long they police and ambulance took to come.

"She was then taken away. She was out on the grass for quite a while."
