A man who grew cannabis at a property in Bolton for himself has been sentenced.

Police visited a property on Hardy Mill Road in Bradshaw in November 2020.

Bolton Crown Court heard they detained Lloyd Rose there and carried out a search of the premises.

Inside they found 38 cannabis plants as well as an air extraction system and horticultural lights.

They also discovered that electricity had been bypassed.

Duncan Wilcock, prosecuting, said: “Just short of £1,400 - £1,349 - worth of electricity had been bypassed from the property.

“The potential value for all of the plants was between 1,140 and 2,850 grams.

“In street deals the value would be between £11,400 and £28,500.”

Rose, of Cornswall Drive, Bury, appeared in court to be sentenced after admitting producing cannabis and abstracting electricity without permission.

The court heard it was accepted he had not planned to sell the drugs and the cannabis was for his own consumption.

Ged Doran, defending, said it had taken “almost two years” for the matter to come to court.

He said: “He was expecting the postal requisition.

“He has made positive changes to his lifestyle.

“In the two years it has taken for this case to come to court there has been no further offending.

“He has demonstrated genuine remorse, his guilty plea is an indication of that.”

Judge Tom Gilbart said: “There is no suggestion you intended to supply these drugs to anybody else.

“I sentence you on that basis.

“You have a history of work and education and you run your own business.

“I am satisfied there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”

He suspended a sentence of six months for 18 months and ordered Rose, aged 29, to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
