A BRASS band has good reason to blow its own trumpet after making it to the finals of a national competition.

The Eagley Band, based in Blackrod, have qualified for the National Brass Band final in Harrogate.

After putting on a performance to remember at the regional finals in Blackpool, the band came second out of 20 competitors and will now travel to Harrogate in October.

Band chairman, Lee Tramontana, said: "It's an incredible achievement, the band deserves if for all the work and effort that goes into competing.

"Our section is regarded as one of the toughest because of the sheer number of bands that compete so to come second is absolutely fantastic."

The band, which formed in 1850, have failed to make the national finals for 18 years.

This recent win will mean a busy schedule in the coming months.

Musical director, Gareth Westwood, said: "I'm so proud of the band. They performed brilliantly on stage and thoroughly deserved to finish in the top two.

"Now the real work begins."
