A granddaughter to Bolton's "Queen" has shined a light on her grandma's knitting work which has created happiness for many since Queen Elizabeth II died.

Kelly Webster is so proud of her 92-year-old grandma, Annie Farnworth, who created knitted items for trees of happiness at Bolton Cares day centres across the borough.

She said the trees have brought some joy and happiness in what is a very sad week for our country.

Kelly said: "I’m the granddaughter of one of the wonderful volunteers known fondly to all staff and service users at Bolton Cares as ‘knitting Annie’ and to us her family she’s known as our queen.

"Annie is 92 years old next week and she does fundraising for the Bolton Cares day centres that she attends by knitting items to sell.

"She does bunnies and chicks at Easter and poppies for Remembrance Day amongst other things, and all monies raised go into the centre for activities for the service users.

"She’s everyday from morning till evening, well apart from an interval to watch her favourite tipping point in an afternoon, knitting things for the centres and loves seeing and hearing the joy they bring.

"During covid she knitted things for the service users that were delivered to their homes by staff when they couldn’t go to the day centres when they had to close, just always thinking of others.

"This week at the centres trees of happiness have been created in the gardens made out of grandmas knitted flowers and Pom Poms.

"My grandma is the most wonderful, selfless, loving person to not only to us her family but to everyone that knows her and she will do everything to make others happy and smile before herself.

"She had to have her leg amputated six years ago but now still lives independently, supported by us her family as a wheelchair user, she has never let this set her back.

"With the sad news of these last few days it makes me thoughtful of our grandma (knitting Annie) who we call our queen and as she approaches her 92nd birthday next week thought it would be wonderful to share the trees of happiness that have been created from the wonderful things she’s knitted for the Bolton Cares day centres, that have brought some joy and happiness in what is a very sad week for our country."
