Overnight road closures at a town centre junction will start this week, highways chiefs are warning.

Manchester Road/Trinity Street/Lower Bridgeman Street will be shut overnight on a number of occasions from September 14 until September 30 for a junction improvement scheme.

Resurfacing work will take place overnight from 8pm until 5.30am which will lead to some road and lane closures.

Work to improve the junction started in February.

The work is designed to link into the Cyclops, Cycle Optimised Protected Signals, junction improvements at Bradford Street/ St Peters Way and Newport Street / Trinity Street.

The idea is to create an 'orbital' cycle route that separates cyclists from other modes of traffic.

Work will include resurfacing, repositioning of islands, traffic signal upgrades and other improvements.

The £2.15m project has been funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and is being delivered by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester as part of a set of wider highway improvements included within the Salford Bolton Network Improvement Programme.

Diversions will be in place and the junction will remain open to traffic at all other times.

The project is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and delivered by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement programme.

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “We know that there may be some disruption to residents, commuters and businesses whilst these improvements are made.

“The council would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience and to thank you for your patience whilst these important works are carried out.”

The scheme aims to make the junction safer for all road users.
