HANS Zimmer may have a point about modern film scores.

The composer, who was behind the scores for Gladiator and The Lion King, amongst others, says that modern film scores sound like "nobody has really thought about them".

There does appear to be a premiere league of film composers - Zimmer, Danny Elfman, John Williams and John Barry probably topping that league - whose work is consistently innovative and breathtaking.

My favourite piece of film music ever - the Ice Dance from Edward Scissorhands - is classic Elfman.

But who can say that they have heard a score recently not written by one of the big names that stuck with them?

Answers on a postcard, please, or via the website. Sadly, I don't think there will be many.
