EVERY year there's one British film that seems to have been made with the sole intention of representing the Brits at the award ceremonies.
It's never big budget, always slightly nostalgic, and the first word film critics come up with is "quirky."
Last year it was Little Miss Sunshine, and this year's Brit-hit is likely to be Son Of Rambow, which is released tomorrow.
The film tells the story of Will, a member of the Plymouth Brethren cult, who as part of his religion isn't allowed to watch films or television.
They certainly wouldn't approve of his filming a sequel to Rambo: First Blood, which his friend and pirate film expert Lee, then.
There have been so few films to get excited about this year that Son Of Rambow looks like the answer to cinephiles' prayers - funny, sweet and clever.
Let's hope it does as well come awards season as Little Miss Sunshine did in 2007.
