TRIBUTES have been paid to a Bolton nurse.

Angela Rose Barker (nee Holehouse) Murray died peacefully at the Royal Bolton Hospital on August 14.

Daughter Jacqueline Holehouse has recalled memories of her ‘amazing’ mum.

She said: “She was very well known in her nursing career as for many years.

“She was the matron of Queensdale Rest Home and before that was a nurse at Platt Saco Lowell, Beehive Mills and Tesco.

“She was a nurse at Bolton General Hospital and also for her daughter’s care business in the 1980s and 90s, Little Women.

“Angela was widowed at 38 years old after her husband Arnold died in a car crash.

“Many years on she married Derek Barker and was left a widow again. Angela lived a quiet life in her latter years spending time living in Southport and then coming back to Bolton a few years ago.

“She was well-looked after at Lever Edge Care Home where she will be sadly missed. They were brilliant for her.

“She leaves a large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“She was quite friendly and had a lovely sense of humour but she also knew her own mind. She was just a nice lady.

“I have had lots of messages of support and had flowers and it shows how she was

“She did a lot of travelling especially around North Wales especially Abersoch.

“She was a bit of a home bird after nursing everyone in the family.

“Mum spent a lot of her time watching old movies featuring Doris Day.

“She was very caring and she would rather stitch than watch TV.”

Angela was the loving and caring mother of Jacqueline and Mark and grandmother to Carl, Danny, Marcus and Tara, Simon, Lauren and Jamie.

Jacqueline added that Angela was a former pupil of St Peter and Paul’s and Mount Saint Joseph, coming from a well respected family of teachers and nurses belonging to the Dilworth and Murray family.

Angela’s funeral will take place on September 23 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Halliwell, Bolton then burial at Astley Bridge Cemetery.
