WHEN you go for a quiet drink after work, you don't generally expect to bump into a genuine musical legend.
So when a friend of mine introduced his companion as "Andy", apart from a passing suspicion that he looked familiar I didn't really think anything of it.
Until he followed up the introduction with, "he used to play bass in The Smiths."
All became clear when Andy Rourke (of course it was he) kindly explained that he'd been helping with the Our Fold video, which the band were shooting at the Soundhouse.
There was a break in filming, so he and a friend had nipped to Varsity for a pint.
The chef there is much more enterprising than I am - he sent up a copy of The Queen Is Dead in the dumbwaiter to be signed.
