GARY Megson has urged caution after Wanderers hauled themselves out of the bottom three on a weekend that could prove pivotal in deciding who drops out of the Premiership.

Gavin McCann's second-half strike at Middlesbrough earned the Whites back-to-back victories for the first time in more than a year and, coupled with defeats for Reading, Fulham and Birmingham City, gave them a major psychological boost as well as a lift up the table.

But they still have only a one-point cushion and, with three tough games to go, Megson has warned they are far from safe.

"We've achieved nothing yet," the manager said. "You look at the finish we've got - away to Tottenham and Chelsea and home to Sunderland - and it's tough.

"We've given ourselves an opportunity now that maybe didn't exist two weeks ago, but that's all. "If we stay on the number of points we've got now, we won't stay up.

"Psychologically, I'm sure this is a big boost to the players, but what we must do now is recognise that we've got a better chance of staying up than we had 14 days ago.

"We've got it in our own hands now, whereas we didn't before."
