Bolton Under-14s halted a run of three games without a win when they ran out narrow 1-0 winners against Blackburn in a challenge game at Pleasington.
The local youngsters, who narrowly went down 1-0 to Stockport in their Greater Manchester Schools' Talbot Cup quarter-final clash, bounced back with a Chris Blackledge (St. Joseph's) winner 10 minutes from time.
Bury U14s failed to claim third place in the Greater Manchester Schools' League when they went down 1-0 to Wigan in their final league match of the season.
The local lads fared well this time around but they suffered a setback midway through the second half when the home side grabbed the only goal of the game to claim all three points.
