FIRE crews were called to a house after an elderly lady threw a coat on a fire.
They attended a property on Parkgate Drive, Astley Bridge, at 3pm.
The woman's carer contacted the fire service after witnessing her actions.
Watch Commander Paul Norris said: "The woman was confused and had thrown her coat on the coal fire.
"Her carer got her out of the house then rang us.
"Luckily it caught on the fireguard which stopped it falling on the carpet."
The fire was contained to the coat and there was no other damage.
