FIREFIGHTERS are calling on local people to make sure they dispose of their rubbish properly after firebugs set an abandoned mattress alight.
Crews from Bolton Central fire station were called to St Ann Street in Halliwell at 10.50pm on Monday.
Arsonists had set a divan bed and mattress alight in a back alley.
Crew commander Andrew Leyland said: "We would ask people to make arrangements with the council to pick up their rubbish and not to simply leave it outside their homes."
