A teenage girl was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver after being left alone in the vehicle by two men who went into a nightclub.

The 17-year-old girl had been out with friends in Oldham when she got into a taxi on Oldham Road, Newton Heath, close to Hulme Hall Lane on March 1 between 4am and 5.30am.

With the two two men she was taken to Sascha's nightclub in Manchester city centre.

After the men went to the club she asked to be taken to her home in Manchester.

But after a short while, the driver sexually assaulted the teenager.

The teenager got out of the vehicle on Oldham Road close to Ten Acres Lane, Newton Heath and a passer-by contacted police. She has been left shaken by the ordeal.

The taxi driver is described as Asian and aged between 25 and 32 years old, with short black hair, a slim face and large eyes.

The taxi is described as a white Ford Transit minibus or van with windows on the sides. It had a red sign or red writing on the side and a taxi licence plate on the back.

Sergeant Emma Connolly, based at Grey Mare Lane Police Station, said: "We really need to speak to the two men who got into the taxi with the victim and got out before the sexual assault occurred in case they have any information which may help us find who is responsible.

"I would also urge anyone who may have seen a taxi matching the description around the time of the offence or, who may know who this driver is, to call us."

Anyone with any information should contact police on 0161 856 3521 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
