FIRE crews were called when an elderly woman living in Leigh Road, Westhoughton, reported the smell of petrol in her home on Tuesday evening.
Crews flushed the drains and ventilated the house.
It is thought a neighbour had poured petrol down the drain as a way of disposing of it.
