PEOPLE can point out crime hotspots to police during a neighbourhood walk.

Residents and business owners are being invited to join local officers, councillors and firefighters on the walkabout next month.

It is the first walk of its kind in the Horwich West area, covering from Victoria Road up to the Adlington border.

Similar walks have taken place in Westhoughton, Tonge Fold and Hall i' th' Wood.

PC Andy Vernon, Horwich community beat manager, said: "People want things to improve in their neighbourhood and this is the opportunity to get the ball rolling.

"The issues raised could be anything from anti-social behaviour to street lighting. It does not have to be crime related, this is a multi-agency approach to improving the town.

"The views will not fall on deaf ears - we want to help make this a safer place."

The walk will start at the Pathway Centre in Albert Street at 6pm on Tuesday, May 6.

It is expected to talk 45 minutes and will include Green Lane, Ormston Avenue, Douglas Avenue, Longworth Road, Bridge Street, Church Street, Old Station Park, Winter Hey Lane and Lee Lane.

It will be followed by a meeting at the Pathway Centre, where plans will be put into place to address issues raised on the walk.

PC Vernon added: "These walks have been successful in other areas but to make sure this is a success in Horwich we need as many people as possible to join us."

Cllr Steve Rock, leader of Horwich Town Council, said he hoped to attend.

He said: "It's a great way for people to have their say about their community. Sometimes people don't come to town council meetings or area forums and this is another opportunity for anyone to raise concerns."
