AN ENGINE problem caused a car to burst into flames just seconds after the driver and passengers had got out.

Smoke began to pour out of the engine and the three women in the car got out and contacted their break-down service.

Then the engine burst into flames and firefighters were called to the scene in Bury Bolton Road, Breightmet, at 8.45pm on Thursday.

Crews spent 30 minutes dealing with the blaze and the engine has been badly damaged.

None of the women were injured.
