A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked in Bolton at the weekend.

Officers out on foot patrol in the town centre at 5.20am on Saturday (September 17) were approached by a woman in distress.

Police then appealed for information to trace those responsible for the incident near Bradshawgate.

Prashant Gurung, of Manchester Road, Bolton, was arrested along with three other men yesterday (September 20).

The 20-year-old has now been charged with rape while the other three suspects were bailed pending further enquiries.

Gurung has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court today (September 21).
