A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked in Bolton at the weekend.
Officers out on foot patrol in the town centre at 5.20am on Saturday (September 17) were approached by a woman in distress.
Police then appealed for information to trace those responsible for the incident near Bradshawgate.
Prashant Gurung, of Manchester Road, Bolton, was arrested along with three other men yesterday (September 20).
The 20-year-old has now been charged with rape while the other three suspects were bailed pending further enquiries.
Gurung has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court today (September 21).
Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead, of Greater Manchester Police's Bolton’s CID, said: “We are continuing our enquiries and reviewing the CCTV in the local area. We also encourage anyone that has information to contact our detectives on 0161 856 5757 quoting 598 17/09/22.
"You can also speak anonymously with the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
