SUN seekers will have their work cut out this Bank Holiday weekend.

Rail repairs and traffic jams are expected to leave many travellers stranded and the weather forecast is just as gloomy.

There will be no Virgin Rail direct services from Manchester to London from Saturday to Monday, due to engineering works on the West Coast Main Line.

And the AA says that as many as 18 million cars will hit the roads this weekend, with Friday and Monday expected to be the busiest in the North-west.

But the Highways Agency has said that while it expects roads to be busy, roadworks will remain in place.

And the news does not get any better when it comes to the weather as amateur Bolton weatherman Graham Fullarton warned: "There will be no heatwave this weekend."

The keen meteorologist, who runs a weather station from his home in Belmont, says we can expect a fairly drab weekend.

"I'm afraid it's going to be a bit rainy although it will at least be reasonably warm," said Mr Fullerton.

"Next week looks like it might be a warm one but we'll all be back at work by then."

The only bright spot he could offer was that it isn't going to rain all the time.

"It should be dry on Saturday but it will be clouded over," he added.
