An inquest has opened after a man from Bolton died in a Spanish hotel.

Jonathan Howard Scott, of Sharples Avenue, Bolton and originally from Manchester, was just 35 years old when he was found with cuts to his wrist in his hotel room in Malaga.

Bolton Coroners Court heard how despite the best efforts of emergency services to save him he was found dead on September 4 this year.

Police Coroners Officer Julie-Ann Hyde said: “Police enquiries were carried out and it would appear that there were no suspicious circumstances and now reason why the body cannot be released.”

Mrs Hyde told the court how Mr Scott had been identified by his passport by PC Stephen Wildman and that an initial post-mortem examination had been carried out in Spain.

Another post-mortem was then carried out by Dr Patrick Waugh of Royal Bolton Hospital who determined that Mr Scott’s death had been caused by wounds to the wrists, but he would wait for the toxicology report from Spain before completing his report.

Professor Dr Alan Walsh, the area coroner requested statements from Greater Manchester Police, from Mr Scott’s GP and from any relevant mental health services ahead of a full inquest to take place at a later date, yet to be determined.

He also requested statements from Spain via the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
