Lancashire's overseas batsman Mohammad Yousuf was left out of the County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire after a technical issue with his working visa.

The Pakistan Test star arrived in England almost a fortnight ago ahead of his five week spell as replacement for Brad Hodge, but only had a temporary visa.

The 33-year-old has played one LV Division One game and three Friends Provident Trophy matches.

The Home Office have now ordered Yousuf to get a permanent visa for the rest of his stay with the Red Rose county.

Alan Fordham, the ECB's head of cricket operations, said that he does not expect Lancashire to be penalised for playing Yousuf in previous games.

Lancashire could have done with him at Trent Bridge yesterday, as their batting woes went from bad to worse on a bowler friendly first day track.

But at least they hit back, after being bowled out for 113, to skittle the hosts for 202. Lancs had reached 4-0 in their second innings at close. They trail by 85.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, captain Stuart Law top-scored with a breezy 55.

Law and Steven Croft (21) put on a fifth wicket stand of 85 to help steady the innings after it had slumped to 16-4.

But a change of ball, that lost its shape just after lunch, brought about a damaging glut of six wickets falling for just 12 runs in seven overs.

Atherton professional Steven Mullaney, making his Championship debut, was bowled by Darren Pattinson (6-30) for a duck.

All-rounder Croft then led the fightback to pick up figures of 4-51, while left-arm spinner Gary Keedy chipped in with a handy 3-28. Dominic Cork and Sajid Mahmood were also amongst the wickets.
