Lancashire have got to win their final Friends Provident Trophy group tie against Roses rivals Yorkshire on Wednesday if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The Red Rose county were bundled off top spot in the North Division by an ever-improving Derbyshire side, who claimed an impressive 100-run victory at the County Ground last night.

The Lightning were bowled out for just 188 as they chased down a very testing 288-5 on a good batting pitch under lights.

Australian Test batsman Chris Rogers hit an entertaining 94, while opening partner Stephen Stubbings finished on 95 not out.

And, not only have Lancashire got to beat the Tykes at Headingley next week, they have also got to hope that results elsewhere go their way in the meantime.

It was actually Derbyshire's first ever win over Lancashire in the history of a competition that started life as the Gillette Cup.

"It is sad that it is now out of our hands - we have only got ourselves to blame," said left-arm spinner Gary Keedy, who hit a late 33 with the bat.

"All we can do is go to Headingley, try and win the match, whilst hoping for a bit of luck elsewhere. Being in someone else's hands at this stage of the competition is not where we want to be."

Francois Du Plessis top scored with 54 in the chase, as Lancashire's fragile batting line-up took another confidence shattering blow. Their highest score in any form of the game is 254-6 in a three-day friendly against the students of Durham University.

"The batting is lacking confidence," added Keedy. "But they are all solid pro's - they know what is required.

"This seemed to be the ideal game for us to get back into some kind of form with the bat on a good pitch."
