The Bolton Black History Group will kick off this years’ Black History Month today (Saturday October 1) with a free event, involving lots of Caribbean food, African drumming and more.
It will take place at Bolton Cricket Club, which combined traditional African drumming from Papa Sam, with African tribal face painting and chart-topping Black music from around the world.
The group will also show a short film and biographical exhibits of Apartheid campaigner and Black Consciousness leader Steve Biko, Afro-American Abolitionist and Freedom Fighter Harriet Tubman, Bristol Bus Boycott leader and anti-racist activist Roy Hackett, as well as Britain’s first Black female MP Diane Abbott.
There was also a selection of cakes baked by the group, as well as stalls and a raffle.
For more information on other activities Bolton Black History Group are organising, and to register, call Marlene on 0791 028 5769 or email the BoltonBlackHistory@gmail.com.
