Bolton School Girls’ Division’s Year 9 netball team has won a national competition.

The girls fended off 20 other teams to win the Masterclass GSA U14 Netball Tournament.

The team, captained by Georgia Clarkson, completed the first day of the group stages undefeated at Condover Hall in Shrewsbury. 

This sent them through to the trophy competition the following day, with four hard fought fixtures against difficult opponents, including Francis Holland, Maynard, Manchester High School for Girls and Notting Hill and Ealing.

The team were once again undefeated and through to the final.

The final was against top-placed and fellow unbeaten team from the previous day, Godolphin and Latymer.

The Girls’ Division team already had one up on their opponent, having defeated them in the group stages. The confidence shined through as they cruised to victory in the final 18-8.

The girls’ netball coach, Ms Farrimond-Goff, said: "A well earnt and deserving result after giving every effort throughout the match and the weekend.

"Congratulations to all students that participated - Lana Bakker, Scarlett Bowie, Georgia Clarkson, Pippa Critchley, Lois Cowin, Ashriya Fernando, Marissa Hollinghurst, Molly Neville, Olivia Jones, Daisy-Lee Strange.

"A further congratulations to Molly Neville who was named as player of the tournament by Ella Bowen, the Future Roses player."

Before the tournament, the pupils had enjoyed outdoor activities, including climbing, abseiling and zip wires before an evening with Ella Bowen, who discussed her netball journey.

She welcomed questions from the students and highlighted the importance of dedication and resilience whilst maintaining a balance of academic and social life.
