A popular bar is shut this afternoon with a 'repossession' notice posted on its doors.

The notice has been stuck on the popular The Clarence Pub on Silver Street.

A post updating customers has been put on the pub's Facebook page.

The Bury pub and restaurant remains closed as signs on the windows state 'peaceful repossession of the premises was secured as a result of failure to pay rent'. 

On Facebook, staff have apologised for any inconvenience caused and are unsure when they will be able to re-open.

A post on Facebook said: “The Clarence has been closed by the building owners.

“We do not know when they will reopen it again.

“Sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.”

The peaceful repossession notice is up on the side of the pub and in the front entrance which is blocked by a locked gate.

The notice reads: "On the 27th day of September 2022 peaceable repossession of the above premises was secured as a result of your failure to pay the rent in accordance with the terms of the above lease.
"Section 6 of the aforesaid Lease together with section 146 of the Law of Property Act 1925 allows forfeiture under these circumstances. As a consequence of re-entry and repossession of the premises, the lease is now forfeited.
"If you do not make contact within 14 days from the date of this notice then the Landlord reserves the right to place them in storage and/or dispose of them.
Any costs incurred are recoverable from you."

Following the news, customers commented on Facebook and said: “That's not good, I've enjoyed my visits there this year, hope it reopens soon.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this, was hoping to come down again soon. Hopefully it’s resolved soon.”

“Gutted, hopefully you'll be back soon...”
