A 25-foot tree in Breightmet has been deemed as ‘dangerous’ after high winds and an internal fire.

Firefighters were called earlier today (Saturday) to a tree fire just off Wagon Rd, Breightmet.

The tree, which is suspected of having been set alight last night, was still burning internally when crews arrived at 2pm today.

Paired with the high wings and a 25-foot hight, Bolton North teams deemed the tree insecure and a ‘dangerous structure’.

Following the call, Bolton Council’s tree surgeon team attended to make the area safe again.

Bolton North Watch Manager, Carl Gleaves, said: “We were called at 2pm to a 20 to 25 foot tree just off Waggon Rd, in Breightmet.

“We weren’t called because of the fire but when we arrived, we could see that the tree was burning internally.

“It looked like an area that's regularly had fires and it's gotten to the point where not only was it still on fire when we got there but with the high winds, the tree was so insecure.

“We had to deem it as being a dangerous structure and get the council to come down.

“We've been up there for a few hours dealing with that and waiting for the tree surgeon and finished at around 4pm.”
